Jeux sans Frontiere
Teamwork, supposedly was involved.

This is a one man project and is driven by my fascination as a child of seeing the very colourful "It's a Knockout" (IAK) and the international "Jeux sans Frontieres" (JSF).

About 16 years ago IAK and JSF ceased transmission in the UK. As a teenager i was devastated as i had been brought up on them from a very early age. For example, when hearing the boxing term "Knockout", confusion set in as i was unaware of any other meaning beyond the show.

So why produce the only (or if copied) the original IAK/JSF web page?

Well like many others when joining the internet last year, a whole load of topics spring to mind to do searches for. So naturally a search for IAK and JSF and Eddie Wearing and Stuart Hall were amongst my initial searches. The results? Forget it. On every search engine nothing!

So the job was mine. But where would i get info from? TVCream was a good start as they had a bulletin board. Soon the board was buzzing with members screaming for a nostalgic look at the show. One member suggested that an old 70's episode of The Goodies had the opening titles to JSF. So down to WHSmith i went and found it, great i don't have video capture!!!

The men you see on the left of the contents page are all hand drawn from freeze frames on my video.

Soon i found a friend of a friend who could video capture for me.

Then a member of the BBC archives kindly downloaded some pics for the page. It was almost enough to publish all i needed now was to remember details of the show. The Bulletin Board helped and several library books later the page began to debut on the WWW.

Since then an Australian and Greek sites have contacted me and we've made a web-ring.

Also the EBU, organisers of JSF have shown interest along with many others. Emails to the BBC to bring it back were also sent with no success.

Coincidently or maybe not, Channel 5 suddenly bought the rights to IAK and signed up Stuart Hall. They tell me that they are considering bringing back IAK but won't mention plans of JSF.

As i remember the winners of IAK represented GB in JSF so why do one without the other. Maybe we can force the issue so please let Channel 5 know that we want JSF as well.

If nothing else, it was worth tuning in for the commentators, Stuart Hall and Eddie wearing were superb. Eddie grumpy as sin, Stuart wetting himself over ever costume and trip - Calssic BBC in the 1970's
